| Functions of the Department of Engineering AAI |
| |
- The Engineering Directorate constructs and maintains 87 domestic civil
airports and 28 passenger terminals at Defence Airports in the country. The
major function of Engg Directorate are :
- Main task of Engineering Directorate is to plan design and implement
development works with the sole purpose of providing maximum passenger comfort.
Engineering Wing has been very successful in implementing airport projects of
big magnitude which include construction of new airport capable of handling
jet/wide bodied aircraft. Engineering also maintains airport facilities at all
airport especially the highest elevated airport in the world such as Leh.
- Design and execution of airfield pavement i.e Runways. Aprons, Taxi track
shoulders etc. based on international Civil Aviation
- Organization guidelines.
- Contract management, Project Planning, Scheduling and Monitoring.
- Maintenance of Operational Runways, apron and Taxi-track
- Structural design of Airports Terminal and Designing of various airports
services .
- Maintenance and upkeep of Passengers Terminal, Car-parking and Approach
Roads to Airport in AAI premises
- Plan, provide, operate and maintain E&M services at Airport such as
Aero-bridges, Escalators, Elevators, Baggage Conveyors, Air conditioning
systems etc.
- Plan, provide, operate and maintain Apron Flood Lighting system
- Providing Power Supply and maintain Apron Flood Lighting System.
- Providing Power Supply to all Airport installation including Communication
& Navigational Aids
- Plan, Provide Operate and maintain Solar Power Obstruction Lighting
System.

Airport Authority of India (AAI) has proposed to modernize 35 Non- Metro
airports to world-class standards with focus on airside and city side
development and enhancements of non-aeronautical revenue. These airports are
located at Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Guwahati, Jaipur, Udaipur, Thiruvananathapuram,
Lucknow, Goa, Madurai, Mangalore, Agatti, Aurangabad, Khajuraho, Rajkot,
Vadodara, Bhopal, Indore, Nagpur, Vishakhapatnam, Trichy, Bhubaneswar,
Coimbatore, Patna, Port Blair, Varanasi, Agartala, Dehradun, Imphal, Ranchi,
Raipur, Agra, Chandigarh, Dimapur, Jammu and Pune.
- The terminal building works have been successfully completed at the Jaipur,
Udaipur, Mangalore, Aurangabad, Nagpur, Vishakhapatnam, Trichy, Dehradun
airports.
- The terminal building work is in progress at Amritsar, Ahmedabad, Lucknow,
Madurai, Khajuraho, Bhopal, Indore, Coimbatore, Varanasi, Ranchi, Raipur,
Chandigarh and Pune Airports.
- The terminal building work is planning stage at Bhubaneswar, Goa, Vadodara,
Patna, Port Blair and Jammu.
