About the Airport

  • Gate way to North Eastern States.
  • Located at Dum Dum, 18 Kms from the City.
  • 1924 - First Aircraft landed - DAKOTA-3.
  • 1942 - Had a very small beginning with a primitive airstrip.
  • 1960s - This airport occupied an important position with 0.5 lacs passenger traffic, the highest among MUMBAI, DELHI & CHENNAI airports.
  • 1970s - Japan Airlines, Panam Airlines, Air France, Qantas Airlines, Swiss Air and Cathay Pacific were operating at this Airport.
  • 1972 - AAI took over the management of this airport and carried out various plans to improve the passenger facilities, aircraft operations and its safety and security.
  • 1975 - Commissioning of first Cargo Terminal in the country.
  • Jan, 1995 - Commissioning of new Domestic Terminal building and the renaming of the airport as NETAJI SUBHAS CHANDRA BOSE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
  • Sep. 2000  - Commissioning new International Arrival Hall.
  • IS/ISO 9001:2008 Certified Airport
  • Best Maintained Airport - 1997 & 1998
  • Best Fire Station Award - 1988,1993,1996 & 2001
  • Ranked number one among international airports in Customer Services consecutively four round of customer satisfaction surveys.
  • 2008 - Commissioning of state of the art facility.
  • Automatic Storage & retrieval system in new integrated cargo terminal. First time in India.
  • Winner of International award for excellence in Air cargo for emerging cargo Airport year 2009 by the STAT TRADE TIMES
